BC Hospitality Expo Presents:
The Best of the West
Culinary Competition
The BC Hospitality Expo (BCHE) is proud to present the Second Annual The Best of the West culinary competition at this year's event.
The BCHE, in partnership with the BC Chef’s Association will be putting, head to head, four Junior Programs for the title of The Best of the West.
Join Master of Ceremonies, Dudson China’s David McIlwraith and Celebrity Co-master of Ceremonies David Adjey, star of the Restaurant Makeover tv series for this exciting two day event that will give young culinarians bragging rights of being crowned The Best of the West.

Best of the West Awards Competitions Underway David McIlwraith, MC
The winning team will receive the title of The Best of the West 2009 along with a beautiful glass trophy. Each member of the winning team will receive a commemorative platter from Dudson China and a $500 gift certificate from Best Buy.
The competitions are administered and judged by the BC Chefs Association

Monday, November 23rd Team Competition
Heat One 12 noon – 1:20 PM
Heat Two 1:30 PM – 2:50 PM
Heat Three 3:00 PM – 4:20 PM
Heat Four 4:30 PM – 5:50 PM
Each Heat is comprised of the following:
1. Five appetizers must be plated and served in the first 20 minutes
a. Four to be served to guests, one to be judged
b. One point will be deducted from the final score for every 30 seconds past
2. Five Main Courses must be plated and served by the 50 minute mark
a. Four to be served to guests, one to be judged
b. One point will be deducted from the final score for every 30 seconds past
3. Five desserts must be plated and served by the 70 minute mark
a. Four to be served to guests, one to be judged
b. One point will be deducted from the final score for every 30 seconds past
The Teams are made up of three cooks, one server, judging for day one will be based on proper service standards, plus the culinary judging, beverage may be paired with your courses. Scores will be tallied and reserved for the next days tallies.
Tuesday, November 24th Black Box Competition
TWO COOKING competitors from the previous day’s competition will individually enter a Black Box competition, their individual scores will be added to the previous day’s scores to provide a grand total. The winner will be announced from these totals. In the event of a tie, the Black Box totals will decide the winning team.
Heat One Noon – 12:30 PM
Heat Two 12:45 PM – 1: 15 PM
Heat Three 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM
Heat Four 2:15 PM – 2:45 PM
Heat Five 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Heat Six 3:45 PM – 4:15 PM
Heat Seven 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Heat Eight 5:15 PM – 5:45 PM
